The average price of regular unleaded gas in Kentucky has increased by $1.15 per gallon since the war in Iran started.
The average price of diesel fuel in Kentucky has increased by $1.58 per gallon.
For every 10 gallons of regular unleaded that you use, that now costs you an extra $11.50. If you use 40 gallons per month, that equals $46 extra from your pocket.
If you have a truck and use diesel, good luck. If you need only 10 gallons per week, that now costs you an extra $15.80, or $63.20 per month. If you are filling a 26 gallon tank, I hope you have an open line of credit.
Statewide, there are an estimated 3,161,159 daily-driver, regular gas powered vehicles. If, on average, all of those vehicles are using 10 gallons of fuel per week, that now costs an additional $36.35 MILLION collectively for all driving Kentuckians.
There are also an estimated 243,344 diesel vehicles on Kentucky’s roads. If they only use 10 gallons on average per week, that now costs an additional $3.7 million.
Combined, Kentuckians are currently being forced to pay approximately $40,000,000 MORE each week to drive in the exact same way we were one month ago.
That is all money that should be going to help offset expensive food, expensive housing, and insanely-expensive healthcare.
Why is this suddenly happening?
Because Trump chose an unprovoked, illegal war with Iran. He didn’t seek approval or support from Congress or international allies. Yet the Republicans in Congress continue to give him their unwavering support.
This is how Kentucky is rewarded after 64.47% of voters and 118 of 120 counties chose Trump in the election of 2024.
We voted for our own dystopia – and now we get to fund it, too.
Do better, Kentucky.
Be better, America.
