Kentucky lawmakers are reviewing Gov. Andy Beshear’s proposed capital projects and six-year highway plan. The plan includes more than 1,300 projects across the state and would use nearly $9.5 billion in federal and state funds.
Some Republican lawmakers are concerned that the plan is overambitious.
Kentucky Transportation Secretary Jim Gray, D-Ky. updated lawmakers on what the cabinet is hoping to accomplish with the six-year plan.
“There’s a lot of activity underway, with more to come as we continue to invest in transportation. This plan does three things. It takes care of what we already have. It pushes forward on long-standing priority projects, and it honors previous commitments and investments,” said Gray.
Transportation priorities focus on completing carryover projects and funding the new highway plan. Separately from the road fund, the governor’s plan proposes General Fund investments: $240 million remaining for high-growth counties and an additional $125 million for the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor in Covington.
