She has served in that office for over 25 years.

Longtime Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw has died, her office announced Sept. 10. She was 81 years old.

Holsclaw was first elected in 1998 to lead the office responsible for overseeing elections in Jefferson County. The office, which has more than 275 employees, also manages records for vehicle tags, marriage licenses and property deeds.

"For over two decades, Bobbie served the citizens of Jefferson County with integrity and honor," a press release from the office read. "Throughout her distinguished career, Bobbie made lasting contributions through her work at the Clerk's Office, leaving an indelible mark on this community with her many accomplishments. As a public servant, Bobbie leaves behind a legacy of leadership, compassion, and integrity."

The Republican was elected for her seventh term in 2022. That term would have ended in January 2027.

Clerk's office employees have met with Mayor Craig Greenberg about Holsclaw's passing and "will share further updates on the transition process regarding the appointment of a new county clerk."

Holsclaw's accomplishments include modernizing the Jefferson County Clerk's office by making the transition to online services and reorganizing departments to improve efficiency, according to the Jefferson County Clerk website.
