Update: Corydon Central students to stage peaceful walkout protest on Friday

School system will punish students who participate

Via press release

Corydon, IN — Students from Corydon Central High School and Corydon Central Junior High School will participate in a peaceful walkout protest today to voice opposition to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policies and to stand in solidarity with friends, families, and members of their community.

The walkout will begin at 1:00 p.m. and take place at the Corydon Central football field. (Students will not face disciplinary action as long as they return to class in time for 6th period. – Incorrect; see update below.)

School administration and local law enforcement will be present to ensure student safety throughout the event. Parents and grandparents will also attend to support students as they peacefully exercise their First Amendment rights.

“This walkout is about students standing up for their friends and community in a safe, respectful, and lawful way,” said organizers.

The student organizer has chosen to remain anonymous at this time. Tiffany Wolfe Garcia will serve as the public point of contact for all media inquiries.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend and document this student-led demonstration highlighting youth civic engagement, community solidarity, and the peaceful exercise of constitutional rights.

Update 7:27 pm Thursday)

The school system sent this email late Thursday to the parent serving as the press contact:

“Corydon Central High School and Corydon Central Junior High School’s administration has become aware of a rumored, student-led walkout in opposition of ICE tomorrow, Friday, February 20, 2026. Contrary to what has appeared on social media, this walkout is not sanctioned by the schools or their administrators. Students who choose to participate will be subject to the standard discipline practice outlined in the student handbook for truancy.

“While we recognize and respect student rights, our primary concern is student safety and not disrupting the educational environment. Additional rumors include a proposed walk from the high school to downtown Corydon; we encourage parents to have a conversation with their child regarding safety concerns of a walk such as this. We also encourage parents to have discussions with their child about ways to express their beliefs that are not disruptive to the school day or pose potential safety issues.”
