Ethics investigation into Rep. Daniel Grossberg moves forward to public hearing

Ethics Commission found “probable cause” on three allegations

The Kentucky Legislative Ethics Commission has found probable cause that Democratic state Rep. Daniel Grossberg violated the ethics code on three different claims made during an almost year-long ethics investigation.

During a meeting July 8, commission members voted to find probable cause on the following allegations:

  • “Conduct relating to intimidating statements or actions toward a private business.” The commission voted 9-0 that there was probable cause.
  • “Attempts to obtain contributions in exchange for possible state catering business or private company.” The commission voted 8-1 that there was probable cause.
  • “Conduct relating to his interactions with an individual at the Capitol Annex, before, during and after a committee meeting in July 2023 and in his office at the annex involving inappropriate treatment of that person.” The commission voted 8-1 that there was probable cause.

The vote followed hours of private testimony and discussion at the commission’s June and July meetings, where members conducted a closed preliminary hearing.

Because the commission found probable cause that Grossberg had violated the ethics code, a public adjudicatory hearing will be set for a future date.
