The felony charges against two journalists, who were arrested while covering a protest in northern Kentucky and Ohio, have been dismissed.
Prosecutors moved to withdraw the felony rioting charges against CityBeat reporter Madeline Fening and photography intern Lucas Griffith during a preliminary hearing on July 23 in Kenton County District Court.
The felony charges were dismissed with prejudice, meaning they can't be refiled. However, the two journalists continue to face multiple misdemeanor charges in connection with the demonstration on the John A. Roebling Bridge.
Judge Ken Easterling agreed to dismiss the most serious charges, which carried a possible sentence of up to five years in prison, and upheld a court order for the journalists to stay off the Roebling Bridge.
