The Kentucky Press Association held its annual awards banquet on Friday evening, and Forward Kentucky took all three places in the Best Editorial Writer category for small daily newspapers.
The annual newspaper contest is split into two basic groups, advertising and editorial. Within the editorial contest are multiple categories (best sports picture, best breaking news reporting, and so on), and then those categories are broken down by circulation size: small weeklies, small dailies, large dailies, etc.
Because we post items on the site almost every day, we are considered a “small daily newspaper.” So, when it came to the awards for Best Editorial Writer, we got these awards in the small daily class:
- First place: Ivonne Rovira
- Second place: the entire staff of editorial writers
- Third place: Bruce Maples
This is the second year in a row that Ivonne has won that award. One more time and they’ll have to retire it. 😉
