Kentucky: a gun sanctuary state

As opposed to being a life sanctuary state

shooting at Old Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington on Sunday — following the shooting injury of a state police trooper — left two dead and others injured. 

In response, statements poured in from Kentucky politicians on both sides of the aisle:

Per Everytown statistics, “Kentucky’s gun laws are among the worst in the country, and the state has one of the higher rates of gun violence in the nation. Kentucky has none of the foundational policies in place – after legislators repealed its concealed carry permitting requirement in 2019.”

In March 2023, the state legislature overwhelmingly passed House Bill 153, making Kentucky a gun sanctuary state.
