Cannabis advocacy groups gathered at the Kentucky State Capitol on Tuesday as the 2026 legislative session got underway, focusing on public engagement.

Members of the Kentucky Cannabis Freedom Coalition and the Kentucky Hemp Association set up a green tent outside the Capitol, staffed a table inside the building, and invited people to stop by, ask questions, and learn how to communicate with lawmakers.

Organizers described the event as an opportunity for people to experience the capital in a hands-on way while learning how the legislative process works.

“Think of this as an adult field trip to our Capitol building,” organizers said in a Facebook post promoting the event. “It’s beautiful, historic, and open for you to enjoy.”

Organizers also emphasized that support was available for people who might feel nervous speaking with elected officials.

The main focus of the event was HB 225, which outlines personal-use cannabis regulations and proposes a constitutional amendment that would allow Kentucky voters to decide on decriminalization. Supporters say the amendment would give Kentuckians the final say.
