Massie: GOP support for Epstein records bill could ‘snowball’

Vote will take place next week.

Reps. Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie

WASHINGTON — Moments after she was sworn in Wednesday, Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.) gave the final required signature for a discharge petition by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Crescent Springs).

That petition forces a vote on Massie’s bipartisan legislation, co-sponsored by Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) that would compel the Justice Department to release virtually all its records related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Epstein died in custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

“You have to get 218 signatures on the same document,” said Massie. “I succeeded in this, to the consternation of the president, who had originally promised to do what this discharge petition does, so I feel pretty good.”

Massie expects that some Republicans who did not back the discharge petition will end up voting for the release of Epstein records.

That support could “snowball,” he said.

“This vote will last longer than the president will be in office,” Massie said. “They’ll be accountable for this vote in 2028. They’ll be accountable for this vote in 2030, and do they always want to have on their record that they voted to cover up for pedophiles?”
