U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey announced his support for articles of impeachment against Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem during a Jan. 15 House floor speech.
The articles of impeachment accuse Noem of obstruction of Congress, violation of public trust and self-dealing following nationwide protests against the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in American cities as part of President Donald Trump's immigration initiatives.
Around 70 members of Congress have supported the effort, according to a news release from Rep. Robin Kelly, an Illinois Democrat who introduced the articles Jan. 14.
“ICE is committing atrocities in communities across the country every single day,” McGarvey said in a statement.
