McGarvey campaign will no longer accept pro-Israel AIPAC money, rep says

AIPAC was McGarvey’s top contributor in 2024.

U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey will no longer take campaign donations associated with the pro-Israel American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which previously facilitated the spending of tens of thousands of dollars on campaigns by Kentucky’s only Democrat in Congress.

“We no longer take AIPAC money,” McGarvey said at an Aug. 30 town hall at Louisville’s duPont Manual High School to applause from the audience.

He made the remarks in response to a question from an attendee about the influence of AIPAC funds on McGarvey’s positions. ...

According to the campaign finance watchdog site Open Secrets, AIPAC channeled $49,003 in associated funds to McGarvey for his 2024 election and $17,950 in his 2022 run.

Open Secrets listed AIPAC as the top contributor to McGarvey’s campaign for the 2024 election cycle.

The Israel-Hamas war loomed large at McGarvey’s town hall, with pro-Palestinian protesters gathered near the high school’s entrance ahead of the event and many questions from constituents focused on the war and McGarvey’s positions.

“I think what is happening in Gaza is awful. I think it’s wrong,” McGarvey said in response to one question.
