Repub bill punishes Kentucky far worse than any other state

The numbers are truly horrific, no matter how you slice them

It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words – and the same can often be said about a graph. So, in case you’re wondering just how bad the Republican bill is going to be for Kentucky, take a look at these two graphs from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Cut in Medicaid Spending

States that expanded Medicaid in dark blue. Numbers are in billions of dollars.

Cut in Medicaid Enrollment

States that expanded Medicaid in dark blue.

How bad is this?

If the graphs are not enough, here is some more data showing just how bad this bill is for Kentucky.

Enrollment

  • About 133,000 people will be kicked off of Medicaid in Kentucky. The next highest state is North Carolina, with 79,000.
  • If you take an average of the people kicked off Medicaid in all other states, it is 27,720. The harm to Kentucky is almost five times greater.
  • If you then take the median of people kicked off Medicaid in all other states, it is 18,000. The harm to Kentucky is over seven times greater.

Money

  • Kentucky is estimated to lose over $10,000,000,000 in Medicaid funding. (That’s 10 billion dollars.) The next closest is again North Carolina, losing $6.4 billion.
  • The average cut in Medicaid funding for all other states is $2.1 billion. The cut to Kentucky is over four times greater.
  • The median cut in Medicaid funding to all other states is $1.5 billion. Kentucky’s loss of Medicaid funding is over six times greater.

Bottom line(s)

No matter how you look at it, this bill hurts Kentucky far more than any other state.

And, let’s be clear: Any Kentucky representative who votes for this bill cares more for Trump’s approval than for his own voters – and that vote needs to be their scarlet letter for all time.
