School shootings are big business

School shooting preparedness is a multibillion dollar industry.

Gun violence is not the number one cause of death for children, as previously reported. New reporting states, “The vast majority of gun deaths are among teens, not children.”

I think we can appreciate the clarification while remaining horrified that American teenagers are dying from gun shots wounds. And, according to data from Johns Hopkins, gun suicides account for more than half of all gun deaths.

Last night we watched a new documentary titled “Thoughts and Prayers.”

The movie does not make a political argument, which is what we often see, but instead documents the multibillion dollar industry of school shooting preparedness and its absurdity. Our communities can’t afford to pay teachers or build new schools or develop new curriculum, but we can afford bullet proof glass in all of the windows? Industrial, bulletproof, classroom doors? Bulletproof classroom tables to hide behind? Firearms, ammunition and training for teachers? Official instructors for active shooter drills?

The movie is free to watch on Hulu. Even if you do nothing but watch the first 10 minutes, you will be dumbfounded.
