Thanks to strong advocacy from KEA and educators across the Commonwealth, the current version of the HB500 now includes funding increases for SEEK and student transportation from the last biennium budget. House leaders also resolved language that would have caused monthly health‑care premiums to rise by as much as $500 for educators, state employees, and retirees.
The Kentucky Education Association (KEA) appreciates the constructive dialogue with members of the House of Representatives that led to meaningful improvements in the House education budget contained within HB 500.
KEA extends sincere thanks to its members, public school employees, parents, and supporters who contacted legislators and made their voices heard. Your engagement and activism was critical in securing these positive changes.
While these revisions represent important progress, KEA will continue to advocate for mandatory teacher raises and full‑day kindergarten funding as the bill moves forward. We look forward to working with the Senate as it begins its consideration of the state’s education funding plan.
