Three years ago I wrote a warning in Forward Kentucky to right-wing pundits Ben Shapiro and Dave Rubin, both Jews and the latter a gay man, that eventually Christian Nationalists would come for them. And now it’s happening.
Don’t trust me; Ben Shapiro himself has realized how bigotry is now turning against him.
Who could have seen that coming? Oh, right! Anybody who has read Martin Niemöller’s poem:
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
Now let me address MAGA at large.
They are currently rejoicing in some quarters — if you’re on Twitter or Facebook, you know that’s no exaggeration — over the murder of Renée Good, a woman killed on her own street by a trigger-happy ICE agent angry that someone had dissed him. (Watch ICE agent Jonathan Ross’ own cellphone video if you doubt me. Also, when I’m scared witless, I don’t usually whip out my cellphone in one hand while holding a gun with the other. Anyone else find that weird?)
MAGA thinks that can’t happen to them. As usual, they’re wrong.
This was a white stay-at-home mom who was coming home at the wrong time. The ICE agent had no idea that she was an ICE observer when he killed her. He didn’t know she was married to a woman when he shot her. She wasn’t blocking traffic. She was turning around on the street on which she lived, in front of her home, after dropping off her wife. All of these excuses were cooked up by the Trump regime afterward, which acts as if being a lesbian protester were grounds for execution. Briefly blocking traffic as you turn around isn’t a crime, much less grounds for execution.
Someday, probably soon, it will happen to one of them. And then their erstwhile “friends” will destroy that MAGA victim’s reputation in order to protect their Dear Leader. Because Karma is a “fucking bitch.”
