We’re falling behind in the clean energy race

Europe is leading the way

Guess what – the amount of electricity provided by clean energy is growing in every one of the top ten economies in the world.

Guess what else – the United States lags many of those countries in both our rate of clean energy adoption and in how much of our electricity comes from clean energy.

Check out this graphic from Visual Capitalist:

  • The inner ring is how much electricity was generated by clean energy in 2015.
  • The outer ring is how much was generated by clean energy in 2024.
  • The number in the middle is the gain from 2015 5o 2024 in percentage points.

Some data points to consider:

  • China, Germany, Japan, the UK, Italy, and Brazil are all moving to clean energy faster than the U.S.
  • German, the UK, France, Italy, and Brazil all get more of their electricity from clean energy than we do.
  • Brazil gets almost 90% of its electricity from clean energy, while France gets almost all of their electricity from clean energy.

The United States — all of us and our elected representatives — should be leading the way in adopting clean energy. Instead, we are lagging behind many other nations, and some of our electeds are actively fighting against it.

Another reason why we in Kentucky — and now, the entire United States — can’t have nice things.
