The Trump Regime keeps caterwauling that it’s terribly unfair to keep comparing them to the Nazis. And, in a way, they’re right. Rather than being Germany in 1933, the United States looks a lot like Chile in 1973.
No one in Chile voted for General Chief of Staff Augusto Pinochet to launch a coup d’tat and terrorize the country for 16 years. I’m pretty sure those who voted for Donald Trump in 2024 weren’t signing up for extrajudicial killings and a police state.
In the case of Chile, the United States and its CIA played a huge role in inciting and underwriting the coup; in the United States, it’s pretty clear that Russia, its KGB, and its bot army did all it could to elect Donald Trump in 2016, 2020, and 2024, being successful in two out of three tries.
Since then, is there anything a Russian stooge would have done differently than Trump has? And is it not obvious that master manipulator Vladimir Putin has given the most gullible president ever ideas for how to ruin America via a coup?
There are some differences, of course.
- Pinochet was an average student academically; Donald Trump’s grades are so bad that he has threatened to sue any institution that reveals his marks.
- Say what you will, but Pinochet, obviously, served in the military with distinction; Donald Trump is famously called #CadetBoneSpurs.
- Pinochet edited the house magazine for the Chilean Military Academy; Donald Trump couldn’t spell or write a coherent sentence even before his cognitive decline started to progress so rapidly.
- Pinochet was able to quietly organize a coup; Donald Trump can’t stop implicating himself and can’t organize his sock drawer.
While he bloviates on his sad Twitter knockoff, accepts fake awards and plays golf, Trump delegates the day-to-day running of the White House to Stephen Miller, his retribution campaign to Attorney General Pam Bondi, and his coup rollout to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Sad sack Stephen Chung is his Joseph Goebbels. That’s because, unlike Pinochet, Trump doesn’t have the intellect to seek out experience and/or competency in his #MAGAhires. Also, this brings up the burning question: What does Kash Patel do other than post on Twitter and get the taxpayer to subsidize plane trips for his girlfriend?
It took Chile decades to recover, politically and economically, from Pinochet’s coup. Even though Trump is doomed to failure, thanks to his own laziness, stupidity, and incompetence in hiring, that’s probably our future, too.
It will take decades to rebuild America and undo the damage this idiot has done. The sooner we get started, the better.
